Things to keep in mind:

• Please have your lease ready as you may have to fax the gas and electric companies a portion of it to establish service.

• You must call the gas and electric companies a week or so BEFORE your move-in date so that they can get everything started. I have had incidents in the past where tenants forgot to call or waited too long and then had to (literally) move into their new house in the dark as the electricity was switched off!

• The Toledo Edison number is 800-447-3333. The Columbia Gas number is 800-344-4077. The Buckeye Cablevision number is 419-724-9800.

• When making utility arrangements, I would strongly recommend that you get a confirmation number as well as the name of the person with whom you are dealing.

• This is a great way to start building your credit as utility companies routinely report to major credit bureaus.
